Dear labyrinth workers,

For the online LabyrintWerk master classes we invite both national and international speakers to share their knowledge and wisdom about the labyrinth, from the everyday point of view to metaphysical contemplations. They deepen and enrich your experience of the labyrinth. Our speakers are encouraged to go in depth in their master class. Therefore, experience with the labyrinth, and for example knowledge of how to draw a classical labyrinth, is highly recommended.

  • The language of these online LabyrintWerk master classes is English. If and when necessary, a short translation or clarification will be done into Dutch for our members.
  • After your registration you will receive a confirmation of participation. Several days before the master class you will receive the invitation link for the online session via zoom.
  • Participation is free of charge for LabyrintWerk members. Non-members pay €25/USD30 per master class.
  • Wishing to join but not available on the date? Please do register, and you will receive the replay link after the broadcast. It will be available to watch for approx. one or two weeks.

Looking forward to meeting you at these interesting LabyrintWerk master classes!

Master Class with Jeff Saward:
“A Brief History of the Labyrinth Symbol”

The story of labyrinths is as long and tortuous as their designs might suggest. The symbol and its many varieties can be traced back 3500 years or more, but its origins remain mysterious. During this time, it has spread around the world and been adopted and adapted by many different societies, for many different purposes.

From the earliest recorded rock art and archaeological artefacts, via Roman mosaics, mediaeval manuscripts and cathedrals, to labyrinths in remote deserts and the high arctic, and then back to the modern revival of spiritual interest, Jeff will show examples of all of these from his extensive collection of photographs, collected on his travels worldwide over the years.

Jeff Saward (1959) from Thundersley, England has been researching the history and distribution of labyrinths for 50 years. He is the author of several books on the subject and was the historical editor of Hermann Kern’s definitive Labyrinthe catalogue, republished in English in 2000. He founded Caerdroia – the Journal of Mazes & Labyrinths in 1980, now published annually on his website (www.labyrinthos.net), as well as administering the Worldwide Labyrinth Locator (www.labyrinthlocator.org) on behalf of The Labyrinth Society and Veriditas.
